Mikvah

At Tifereth Synogogue, we are blessed to be the host of the Louis & Marilyn Hurwitz Community Mikveh. 

We chose to name the mikveh “Many Waters” inspired by Psalms 93, and because the City of Des Moines sits on two rivers.  This “mayim chayim” or “living water”, reminds us of the Garden of Eden. The ritual of immersion in the mikveh is a means of spiritual purification, helping us to prepare ourselves for events in our lives of great spiritual importance including:

• Weddings
• Bar and Bat Mitvahs
• Preparing to welcome a child’s birth
• Becoming a grandparent
• Conversion
• Recovery after an illness
• and many other modern mikveh uses.
